One thing that makes WFU’s “Philosophy of Emotion” course unique is the emphasis on experiential learning<\/strong>. In this context, experiential learning means emotionally engaged learning<\/strong>. And as we have seen, emotionally engaged learning can be awkward; at times, it’s even painful. But most of the time it’s fun, and it always provides rich resources for our collective inquiry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, October 15, we enjoyed an event organized by our very own Juan Landono<\/strong> — The Phestival: A Philosophy and Arts Festival! This event was the first of its kind. It was framed as an investigational experiment — as well as an intervention against the shallowness of some currents of student and faculty culture at WFU, with the slogan: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival took place under the tents on Manchester Quad, with music, food, and a super-fun painting activities provided by Sydney Aikens <\/strong>and The Artivists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wanted to take advantage of the festival to take stock of what we have learned so far this semester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s time to introduce the Fall 2024 cohort! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This group of students has been absolutely outstanding. They have been given the challenge of engaging with the work of the two previous cohorts on this course Blog. Midway through the semester, we are already knee-deep in a tight nest of intense discussions about the nature of emotions, what life is like here at WFU these days — and how we can and should think about taking care of our emotional lives as we prepare for what is coming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
