Climate change has been in the headlines for the past two decades, but has anything truly changed? The conversations and issues surrounding climate is constantly emphasizing the urgency. So my question begins with how urgent is the climate crisis. The obvious answer is, that it is extremely urgent and people do seem to care but it still doesn’t lead to drastic change. Time has always been an enemy. However, in this specific case, I say we make it our friend. We need to show people just how severe the problem truly is. There’s no better way than to give people a timeline and shake people up a bit so we can come together and truly make change happen.
Author and activist Ray emphasized the importance of different groups of people needing to come together in chapter five of the book. What I found interesting is that we live in a world full of anxiety-causing factors. Most people when they are able to identify something that causes them anxiety, do something about it. So this is a cry for help. Why can’t we all decide to do something about the issue that should be bringing us together, more than anything else? Personally, I like to identify as a citizen of the world, not just of the United States of America, and because of that, I prefer to act to make the world a better place not just our country.
So when you combine what Ray says and the importance of the time we realize that climate anxiety is a very real thing and in order to even begin to fix it we must work together in a timely fashion. Imagine if different unexpected groups came together to raise awareness and offer small solutions that can help fix the problem. The more and more people began making small changes and solutions it would have a greater impact than we know it. That’s why its important to start now and start somewhere. So I invite you to find a group and get moving there is power in numbers.
